Website design for Confinement, Prix Pictet’s online exhibition that showcased photographic responses to the global pandemic by more than 40 photographers previously shortlisted or recipients of PrixPictet photography award. Confinement contains works from photographers such as Nadav Kander, Richard Mosse, Rinko Kawauchi and Nyaba Léon Ouedraogo, among others.
In this project, we tried to answer the question: how could a digital exhibition feel like? For this, we explored forms of bringing into the digital, ideas around collectivity, real-time experience, navigation across spaces, and curated displays. The proposal stays away from the many 3D environments popping up during that time, and rethink how could these questions translate into the format of a website. Considering a very diverse viewership, we introduced tools that allowed for different ways of experiencing the collection, inviting users to decide the level of detail or focus they want to have in the display.
The main view of the website is an endless display of exhibition contents that feature the amount of visitors present in real time. A focus button will allow to make all images of the carousel sharp, deactivating the blurred effect, which allows to focus on one work at a time.
Accessing the overview panel, the user can see images currently on view on other users side, and the overall collection.
The website also allows for hosting curated views of the collection including audioguides explaining the curators view of the visit.
